Ipé Decking

Ipé is an exotic hardwood, Tabebuia serritofolia, used to make high quality decking boards. Throughout the United States, it is also known under various other trademarked names. While we call Ipé by its common name, it is anything but common. Ipé is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and termites. Along with its durability, it possesses a rich beauty that will add value and distinction to any home.

What spans can I expect from my Ipé?

Due to the strength and stability of Ipé:
1x (net ¾”) material can span 16” o.c.
5/4 x (net 1”) material can span 24” o.c.
2x (net 1 ½”) material can span 36” o.c.
Diagonal patterns may require shorter joist spacing.

What sizes of Ipé decking are available?

Sequoia Supply offers Ipé in the most popular dimensions in the decking market along with many hard to find sizes (1x4 to 1x10, 5/4 x 4 and 5/4 x 6, 2x2 to 2x12, 4x4, and select timbers.

Cambara

Cambara is found throughout tropical central and South America from southern Mexico to Peru, but is most abundant in the Guyanas and Brazil. It grows in pure stands on abandoned farms, but fare best on coastal plains and waterways. The trees commonly grow to 100ft in height with diameters of 24 inches, however trees up to 190 ft. and diameters up to 6 ft. have been reported.

Cambara heartwood is renowned for its beautiful, consistent pink, to pinkish- or golden- brown coloring. The luster ranges from medium to high, the texture is moderately coarse and its consistently straight grain is slightly to highly interlocked and knot free. These characteristics of Cambara produce classic, even-toned decking.

Cambara naturally resists both insects and decay making it a good choice fordecking. This natural resistance will add to the longevity of any deck.
